Super Admin – somebody with access to the site network administration features and all other features.

Multisite Super Admins have, by default, all capabilities. The following Multisite-only capabilities are therefore only available to Super Admins:

- create and delete sites

- manage network and sites

- manage network users, plugins, themes, and options

- upgrade and setup network

In the case of single-site, Administrators are, in effect, Super Admins. As such, they are the only ones to have access to additional admin capabilities.


Administrator – somebody who has access to all the administration features within a single site. All administrators have the following capabilities:

- activate plugins

- delete. edit, and publish pages and posts

- edit dashboard

- edit theme options

- export and import

- list users

- manage categories, links, and options

- moderate comments

- promote and remove users

- publish pages

- switch themes

- upload files

- customize

- delete site


Editor – somebody who can publish and manage posts including the posts of other users. All editors have the following capabilities.

- delete, and edit others' pages and posts

- delete, edit, and publish pages and posts

- delete, edit, and read private pages and posts

- create, and edit patterns

- manage categories and links

- moderate comments

- unfiltered html (not with Multisite)

- upload files


Author – somebody who can publish and manage their own posts. All authors have the following capabilities.

- delete, edit, and publish posts

- read

- upload files

- create and read patterns

- edit and delete your own patterns


Contributor – somebody who can write and manage their own posts but cannot publish them. All contributors have the following capabilities

- delete and edit posts

- read patterns


Subscriber – somebody who can only manage their profile.
