User roles on a site help manage access and permissions, ensuring that each user can only perform tasks and access areas relevant to their role. Assigning roles helps keep the site organized, ensuring that users can contribute effectively without compromising the site's security or functionality.
Administrator – somebody who has access to all the administration features within a single site.
All administrators have the following capabilities:
- activate plugins
- delete. edit, and publish pages and posts
- edit dashboard
- edit theme options
- export and import
- list users
- manage categories, links, and options
- moderate comments
- promote and remove users
- publish pages
- switch themes
- upload files
- customize
- delete site
Editor – somebody who can publish and manage posts including the posts of other users.
All editors have the following capabilities:
- delete, and edit others' pages and posts
- delete, edit, and publish pages and posts
- delete, edit, and read private pages and posts
- create, and edit patterns
- manage categories and links
- moderate comments
- unfiltered html (not with Multisite)
- upload files
Subscriber – somebody who can only manage their profile
Student – somebody who has access to course materials and learning resources but cannot make any changes to site content.
